The R.S. Hispaniola Boat Restaurant

The best way to fully appreciate the relaxed atmosphere of the River Thames from a restaurant is to be on a boat ON the Thames. In the elegant, tranquil setting of the R.S. Hispaniola it is easy to appreciate the views across the Thames of St. Paul’s Cathedral, right round to the Houses of Parliament. In the evening, you can gaze at the sparkling lights of the South Bank’s night time activity whilst enjoying excellent food on the boat - a true gastronomic haven amidst the city bustle.

There can be few better ways of spending an evening than dining with a friend or partner, whiling away the hours with a fantastic meal and a bottle of wine or whatever drink constitutes your poison. Now imagine the same scenario but aboard a luxurious boat, sat atop the gently undulating waters of the River Thames, with panoramic views of one of the greatest capital cities in the world. This is the R.S. Hispaniola.

History

The R.S. Hispaniola was once a boat called the Maid of Ashton, and began her career as a passenger ferry on the famous Clyde & Isles route around the west coast of Scotland with the Caledonian Steam Packet Company. Maid of Ashton was the first of four similar vessels. Constructed at the famous yard of Yarrow & Company and launched on 17th February 1953, she entered service at the end of May that year. Since 1973 she has rested at anchor alongside the Victoria Embankment in the heart of London. With beautiful views upstream towards the Houses of Parliament and downstream through the arches of Hungerford Bridge to St Paul's, the R.S. Hispaniola is one of the city’s top choices for fine dining in elegant surroundings. In 2002 she became part of the City Cruises fleet.
